Pack it up

So today I started the packing process. *sigh* Since it'll be at least another 2 weeks before I'm completely out of here, I have to start with things that I don't actually need to get by. So to start, I took all off my framed pictures down, as well as the artwork off my walls, and some of the little knick knacky things down and packed them in a box or stacked them against the wall to go to STL this weekend. My apt. looks so depressing now with all that stuff down! Other things on the list to take this weekend include my dvds and books, photo albums, holiday decorations, my playing card collection, and anything in the front closet that I don't use on a regular basis. I may also clean out my end tables in the bedroom too. Blah. The things that are the biggest pain to pack are a) my closet/clothes and b) the kitchen. The kitchen can't really be packed until the end for obvious reasons, and there's a ton of stuff to be packed. As far as my closet and clothing, I have to go through everything to determine what I'm keeping and what I'm not, so that just takes awhile, plus I have to get as much as possible clean. Oh my, I'm tired just thinking about that.

I plan to go car shopping this weekend, and phone shopping. I think I'm finally going to cave and get a blackberry. I looked at the iPhones, but I have trouble typing, etc because of my nails, so I think the blackberry or an equivalent is the way to go. It has the potential to be a very expensive weekend.

Halloween is also this weekend - and I've decided to dress up as a doctor. I have 2 parties to go to that night, so that will be fun. I've kind of forgot about the holiday in the upheaval of my life and the memorial this week. Crazy. And all the stores have Christmas stuff out now - the holidays are coming!

Have a good day!

Good news

Today I accepted a position with the Gateway Chapter of the National MS Society! I will be a Development Coordinator at the St. Louis, MO office!!! I'm WAY excited! I start on Nov. 17... so much to do between now and then. Buy a car, move my stuff, etc. Craziness, but good crazy.

My grandpa's memorial is on Friday we think. So I'm taking Friday and Monday and either Thur or Tue, I'm not sure which yet. So much to figure out! But I'll make it :).

Where to start?

Man, I don't even know where to start. Ok, bad news first. My grandfather died early Sat. morning. He had been in the hospital for awhile, and had been getting worse, and finally gave up the fight. He's being cremated, so after that happens we're having a memorial. I think. No one seems to know when exactly this is going to happen, which kind of complicates things.
On to the good stuff.

Homecoming at Mizzou was awesome. The weekend was kicked off by burgers, beer and pool at Booche's with Kyle, Storm and Brian (my brother), who's a freshman this year. Storm and Bri beat me and Kyle twice even though we gave Storm the handicap of having Bri as his teammate. It at least made the game a little closer! Bri gave me a tour of the frat house, and then I met back up with everyone at the 'Berg.

Afterwards, Kyle and I headed back to Adam's house (where he, Mark and I were staying), and hung out for awhile, which was cool because its been awhile since its just been us somewhere. Sat morning Mark and Kyle got up to go check in for alumni band for Marching Mizzou, and Adam and I just hung out for awhile. We watched Shaun of the Dead, which is pretty funny. Eventually the other two got back, and we all headed to campus for the game. The boys went to rehersal, and I joined Storm for lunch at the Pasta Factory. Yum. Storm and I then headed over to the Ericson's tailgate. Good food and beer. This day just keeps getting better.

After I brokered a deal for Adam to get a ticket, everyone trickled over to the stadium for the game. (Side note: I spent more time with Adam Wilke this weekend than I have in years. It was interesting, because he forces me to be overly optomistic in order to offset his eternal pessimism. Not to mention constantly telling him he's not going bald.) We watched the band, and somehow all managed to be able to sit together despite having seats scattered throughout. We ended up in just the right spot, and luckily most of the band people didn't care where they sat as long as they had a seat. Worked for us!

Tigers kicked butt, and we had a blast. Afterwards we headed to Gumby's for pizza and (more) beer. Tyler and his girlfriend met us there and we hung out for a little while. I was glad to see him! We then discovered we were too old to party and drink all night and headed home by midnight. This morning I slept in, and headed back to Hollister where I've just kind of chilled all day. I keep thinking its later than it is though, so I guess I'll be going to bed early tonight!

The last bit of good news I'll tell you about tomorrow when it's official. :) Can you guess what it is? Check back tomorrow!

Change is coming?

Ok, so there's a LOT going on right now, but I kind of feel like I might jinx it if I talk too much about it before its all said and done, and therefore blogging about it is out. But know this - good things are happening this week! Keep praying!

And homecoming at Mizzou is this weekend, and I'm WAY excited about that. GO TIGERS!

Ok, that's all I'm going to write at this time. Call if you feel that you really can't wait. :)

Please, please, please!

PLEASE let the MS Society decide they want to hire me! PLEASE!

I went to meet with the chapter president this morning, and I thought it went pretty well. It wasn't a traditional interview, more her asking me a few questions, some of which were more like "getting to know you" kind of questions. So I hope they call! The waiting is going to kill me.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6. My verse for the day. I've been doing so much praying this week God is probably considering taking out a restraining order against me. (Kidding of course... He wouldn't do that, right?)

Another thing to be thankful for is my health - my cysts turned out to be just really dense breast tissue. This was VERY good news! Yay! I also went to the corn maze on Friday with Paige and Kim. Just the 3 of us, no boys or anything, so we had to be brave. Eventually of course you get over being a wuss and just enjoy being scared, so we had fun. Dinner before and ice cream afterwards made for a fun night. Sat I spent the day at home doing some much needed stuff around the house, and made a run to Target for a few things. On the way there though, I almost hit a deer - luckily I saw her and she moved before she caused an accident. Anyway, at Target, they have "over the knee" socks out. If you're not familliar, this means that the socks actually come up to your knees! I bought some and was excited about it.

Sunday I accomplished a few more things and eventually headed back to STL so I could make my interview this morning. Unfortunally, due to construction and an accident, it took FOREVER to get home. I was frustrated - but my mom having dinner ready for me when I finally got there made things a lot better. After a quick trip to the hospital to see my grandfather, I hung out with Mom for a little while and then went out to my sister's house to spend the night since she lives less than 10 min from where I needed to be (as opposed to my mom who lives like 45 min away from there with traffic on 270). We hung out for a little bit, and then went to bed. Interview this morning, then drove back here, though I did stop for lunch and a manicure. :)

I think that about sums up my weekend - keep praying for me to get this new job!!!

Today started off kind of icky, but turned into an AWESOME day. I got my diploma for my MBA from Webster - and a separate certificate saying I graduated with honors, and I am meeting with the Chapter President of the MS Society on Monday!!! I cannot possibly express in blog form how excited I am about this, but know that after I got off the phone with Paula I started screaming with delight. I asked God for guidance earlier today, and boy did He deliver!

Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart - Psalm 37:6. I think that this is my verse for the day. I am in such a great mood. Wow.

I'm sure there are other things going on in my life right now, but I'm really too excited to think about them right now. I'll update about them later.

I had a second interview with the Gateway chapter of the MS Society today, and I think it went pretty well. So hopefully they call again - maybe with an offer?! So thats two good options going right now - pray! I'm really ready to move onto the next chapter of my life. And I would totally love either job - maybe the MS one a bit more, but the other would pay better, so they're equally good options. I am cautiously optimistic.

I had a good, although busy, weekend. Friday was Taylor's birthday, and everyone went to Fuddrucker's for dinner and then on to the home opener for the St. Louis Blues (hockey for those of you who are non-sports folks.) It was good to see everyone again, and I think it made things really special for Taylor to have everyone come out and celebrate with him since the last few he's been in Tulsa.

There was also free face painting at the game, and as you can sort of see, Holly and I took full advantage and got blue notes. After the Blues won, we then went to Ted Drewes for some ice cream, which you all know in my book is a perfect end to an evening.

Since I had originally planned to go back to Branson on Sat afternoon and then just stay here the rest of the weekend, I did not pack enough stuff to stay until today, nor did I pack the right stuff to go to an interview. Plus my cats didn't have enough food to get through today, so I decided to come home for the night. My dad and his dog ended up coming with me to keep me company. We went to dinner down here and watched the Mizzou game (such a heart breaking loss) and then headed back to STL on Sunday so I could go to my interview this morning. (So for those of you who are keeping track, I made the treck down Hwy 44 four days in a row. Ick.) Sunday evening I took a little nap and went up to the hospital to see my grandpa for a bit, and had dinner with my mom and Bill. Interview this morning, lunch with my mom at the hospital, and then back to Branson today. Whew.

I have no desire to go to work tomorrow. At all. Oh well.

Until next time.

A few more things

Ok, I realize that this is my 3rd post this week, so I'll do my best to keep it short because I'm really not that interesting, but there does seem to be a lot going on.

I got a post card from Teren this week! Teren is in the Navy, and the postcard is from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and it looks awesome there. And TC says there's AMAZING shopping there, so you know I'd be poor by the time I got back! He's pictured here in North Korea. It was really good to hear from him - I'll miss him at homecoming this year! We're pretty much at the point now where since so many of the guys are in the military that getting everyone from the gang in one room is next to impossible. Here's on of my favorite shots of us from Mizzou.
I'm still undecided on what to do this weekend. Go to just the hockey game? Do all of it? None of it? Grr. I have no idea. Welcome to October, where there are a million things to do and I can't make a decision.
Also, my ultrasound/mamogram is scheduled for Oct. 17. Hopefully it is as the dr. suspects, and is just cysts that aren't hurting anything. But we have to be sure - its not like you can say you're too young to have cancer or any other major disease. Don't worry - if I'm dying I'll be sure to let you all know so you can send appropriate gifts. :)
Oh, and the lady at the post office today complimented me on my card decoration skills. I think that's it.

Harry Potter, Homecoming & Halloween

I finished the 7th (and last) book of the Harry Potter series today. Its weird - I've been so into the HP world the last 3 1/2 weeks that I'm kind of sad to be finished reading them. It was like that when I finished the 7th book the first time as well - like saying goodbye to a good friend who is forever frozen in time. Its also funny to me that HP would be 28 if he were an actual person (his parent's grave markers indicate he would have been born in 1980), and that he would already have had all 3 of the children mentioned at the end of the book with Ginny. (Wow, this is beginning to reveal my HP geek tendencies...) Ok, enough about people who do not actually exist. Next thing you know I'll be telling you about Santa Claus.

This coming weekend is "corn-wine" weekend with some of my friends from high school. The weekend consistes of going to Columbia for the corn maze, camping, then going to Herman and spending Sunday at the wineries. Friday is also Taylor's birthday, and everyone is going to the hockey game, which I'm told there is an extra ticket for if I'm interested. This sounds like a lot of fun to me, but, since I made an unplanned trip to STL this past weekend, I don't know if I'm going to go. For one, its a lot of driving - not only to STL, but then to and from Columbia on top of it. For another, I would probably only go to the corn maze to minimize too much driving in one day, and since I can go to a corn maze elsewhere it does not hold as much appeal as the entire weekend. *sigh* I hate living so far away!

I also need to figure out what I'm going to do for halloween. Not only have I not decided on a costume, but I haven't even decided for sure what city to spend it in. Since it falls on a Friday, there are lots of options... but really I'm praying that I get offered a new job and I'll spend most of the weekend moving!

I'm also really excited for Mizzou's homecoming this year. The football team rocks, and Neil & Kelly (among others) are coming in! I'm really excited to get to see everyone, and to reminiss about our time at MU. I've got my ticket to the game, and have secured a place to stay despite the fact that every hotel in Columbia is completly booked. (Behold the power of Homecoming!) I'll be staying with Adam Wilke (who still has not graduated) since I think Tyler's might be a bit crowded and he has plenty of space. I think a few other people might be staying there as well, but as far as I know I'm the only one who has gotten a (nearly impossible to get) response from him. So who knows. GO TIGERS! hehe.
My cats have also been very affectionate recently. They must have missed me last weekend. Or the weather is just getting cooler. Something like that. :)

Fall fun

The leaves are changing, and the weather has been just beautiful here lately. I love it! Any day I can wear jeans, a sweater and flip flops and be comfortable is a good weather day in my book. Devin and I took some time to play in the beautiful leaves!

This weekend really was a lot of fun. I got into STL on Thursday night, and went to have dinner with Taylor at Steak 'n Shake. This was especially exciting because it was just the two of us since Sam was at work. (Granted I would not have been sad if Sam had been with us!) After dinner Sam met up with us and we went over to the Bembower's to watch the rest of the VP debate with Dan and Mark (and eventually Anna). Fun stuff. Friday I got up and got ready for my phone interview with the Gateway MS Society. It went alright - I don't think I said anything to disqualify me from the running, but didn't dazzle either. After I finished that, I started getting ready for my in-person interview with Daymon. Before that though, I took my mom lunch at work, which had the added benefit of her giving me a pep talk right before I went. Interview went great as far as I can tell - I was there for an hour and a half, and had answers to everything he asked me. Since he asked me a lot of marketing-related questions (such as "how would you go about researching for a new brand" or "where would you tell them to merchandise this product?"), I think this was good. And all his feedback while I was there was positive, so hopefully that was a good sign. I'll let you all know when I hear something about either one.

Friday afternoon I went by the hospital to see my grandpa with my mom, and then went out to dinner with Sam & Taylor at Bandana's before meeting up with Kyle and Mark to go to the LHS football game. Taylor likes to go because he just likes football, and the rest of us go with him to reminiss and to watch the band. Whatever works, right? After the game (LHS won) we went over to Growler's for drinks and nachos. Low key, and fun.

Sat I went apple picking with my mom, my sister (Kristen) and Devin at Eckert's in Millstat, IL. We had a lot of fun picking apples, and Kristen and Devin also got pumpkins. Plus we got to go down the big slide and see some farm animals. My mom was quick to point out that Devin needs to get out to the country more since he's so excited to see any type of farm animals, even if we just drive past them on the way there. It was funny. Here are some pictures of our day...

Sat. evening I hung out at home for a little while then went to watch the Mizzou game with everyone at the Ericson's house. Tigers kicked Nebraska butt (!) and we all had a blast. Plus Holly made some really good chilli, which I should really get the recipie for. Hm.

Today, I was lazy in the morning, and really had no desire to get dressed, but had to so I could go up to the hospital before I left. Good thing I did, because my grandpa was awake and alert, and for the first time since he went into the CCU I felt like he knew I was there and who I was and would have talked to me if he could have (he tried actually, but we couldn't understand him. Mom had just told him about my interviews though, so I'm sure he was telling me I had better get the job so I can move back to STL. He had that look about him that said he was telling me his views. lol) I talked to my grandma for a little bit, got some lunch, then headed back to southwest MO. I stopped to have an ice cream dinner with Kim on the way back, which was fun.

And now I face it being Monday again and having to go back to work. *SIGH* Maybe soon things will change!
