Snow day

Today I got to experience a phenenomon few in their adult life get to experience besides teachers: a SNOW DAY! Originally we were just going to come in late (at 10am) in order to avoid the crappy snowy traffic, but our Chapter President decided that it would be safer to just have everyone stay home today. I'll take it! So far we've gotten about 2 inches of snow. Its still coming down though, in little balls of ice that you can't see from the window but can feel when you get out there. I went out a little bit ago to clean off some of my car while the sun was still "out" (if you can call it that) and took some pictures of it for your viewing pleasure while I was out there.
The first is proof that there was about 2" when I went out (arround 1pm), and the next is part of our front yard, and then from the driveway looking across the street. I think the snow is pretty; but then again I haven't had to go out in it today! I will later though because Kristen is on call tonight and I'll have to eventually make my way over to her house. Which I'm not too excited about, but oh well. At least the drive to work tomorrow will be better because you know this stuff isn't going to go away overnight, and we're susposed to get more. So as long as the office is open tomorrow (which I'm pretty sure it will be) it will be better for me to be at her house in the morning.
I also made an apointment today for my car to get an oil change tomorrow evening - its kind of hard to believe I've had it for almost 3 months already, and put over 3000 miles on it! Granted some of that was driving to and from Branson, but still! Time flies sometimes I guess. At least the defroster works good! lol. Superbowl is this weekend, and I currently have no plans for watching the game. Its one of those times that I would throw my own party, except that I have no house of my own within which to do so. *sigh* Someday. Orignially I was hoping to have a place by my birthday (2/16), but it appears that that is not going to happen. Oh well.
Happy Tuesday!

"I can handle anything if I have the right shoes!"

The title above is on a wall thing in my office at work, and I have to say that it was the perfect motto for this week! (As it is every week really.) This week at work has been super busy but really good. It's Team Captain week, which means I am meeting and talking with lots of team captains (TCs) and starting to meet people. Which is the fun part of my job - and it can be a really rewarding part, too. Like when one of my new TC's called to thank me for personally dropping stuff off at her house so that she could be more successful and for being available to her (ofcourse!). To me it wasn't a big deal because I try to do that for all my TCs, but it was nice to hear that it made someone's day and that they appreciated it. And that's just one example - so I hope I'll be able to make a difference in this organization by providing a more personal touch to all my teams.

In addition to that craziness, Thursday night was our Night of a Thousand Stars dinner, where we recognize our volunteers and award winners who we feel represent the values and mission of the organization. It's a very moving, emotional evening, and its great to be able to spend time with the people who make our programs and events possible. Without them we could not do what we do! Then there was the Brown Shoe Sale. Brown Shoe Co. has a Walk team, and one of their fundraisers for us is the sale. Brown staff and the NMSS staff are invited to come shop, and basically they are selling the sample shoes or shoes that have been donated. Its fabulous - an entire room full of shoes! And they're way discounted - womens were $5, mens were $10 and kids were $3. AWESOME! So I spent Thursday helping set up, and today helping to work the sale. And I must say, they rocked this fundraiser and raised over $12,400!! Plus they sold "jeans day" tickets, and raised another $1390, giving them a total of $13,855! WAY TO GO BROWN SHOE!! Major props go to their team captain Scott Temkin for organizing it! I got to have lunch with Scott on Thursday, and I really think he's just a wonderful person and I feel privledged to work with him. I'm going to have to steal him from Angie (cause he's technically hers). Anyway, I bought myself 6 new pairs of shoes and I'm very excited to wear them all! One of my co-workers, Lura, informed me that I missed my calling and should be working there surrounded by shoes all day since I was enjoying myself so much. I told her that this was a distinct possibility, but then I wouldn't get to sit next to her everyday. :)

Ok, I'm sure you're tired of hearing about work, but I do love my job and wanted to share my fun week with you. (Can you tell I don't miss my job at Philip Morris at all?) Besides, my personal life has not been very exciting this week. Tomorrow night Holly/Kyle/Storm are having a "Winter Luau", in which we will be having chicken wings and pina coladas and pretending that its warm even though its freezing fing cold! I have no idea what I will wear to such a party, but I'm sure I'll figure something out. Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. day, and I'm off work! I'm babysitting for my nephew in the morning, but other than that plan to spend the day relaxing. Yay for holidays!

Girls just wanna have fun

I really must say that this has been a pretty fabulous weekend. Friday evening Mark hosted poker night, and pretty much everyone from that group was able to make it over for at least a little while. It was also Patrick's birthday, so I was glad we got to celebrate with him, too. So there was lots of drinking, playing video games (who knew Guitar Hero for Wii had a Rockband-ish game with drums and everything? and of course Mario Brothers!) and or course cards. There were 9 of us playing, and I'm proud to report that I took them all out and won the entire game. Horray for making money! Definately a fun night.

Saturday Kyle, Storm, Mark and Patrick decided to go snowboarding at Hidden Valley, and originally Holly and I were going to go along and watch them and drink alcoholic hot chocolate. We ended up deciding that sleeping in and being lazy sounded better, and just hung out at her house watching "Music & Lyrics" and drinking alcoholic hot chocolate. (And of course there was some gossiping involved!) It was a lot of fun, and we will be doing it again soon I think. :) Sat. evening Sam, Holly, Kara and I decided to go see "Bride Wars" at the new Fenton Great Escape theater. The theater is pretty nice, and the movie was fun too. Not a lot of thinking involved, but perfect for a night out with girlfriends. Afterwards we went back to Holly's and hung out talking about all kinds of stuff till almost 1am. Definately another fun night, and Sam declared that we should do it again, too. Fabulous day!

This morning I went to look at a few condos with Jamie again, and didn't see anything that was better than things we already saw. I'm still hoping to find one that I walk through and think, "this is the one." Sadly, that has not yet occured. There have been some that are close, but not quite there. Luckily I'm not in a situation where I have to find something immediately, so I have some time to keep looking for the one that is exactly what I want.

Next week at work I start getting to actually meet some of my team captains, and I'm excited to get our Team Captain week for Walk MS underway. It'll be another busy week, but next weekend is a 3-day weekend with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so yay for that! I think this week will go by fast!

Happy 2009!

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed celebrating the end of 2008, and the fresh start of 2009. I did. I started out at Sam & Taylor's house for a bit, then headed over to the Neithe's annual new year's party. It was really good to see everyone, and I'm glad I got to ring in the new year with friends again. Plus some of them I hadn't seen in quite some time, so it was good to catch up. And of course I handed out a few trading cards and was told to stop talking shop :). Hey, at least its a job I like! lol. (I'll work on it guys, but really, my job is all about networking!) I think 2009 has lots of great potential for me. 2008 was kind of a transition year (new job, finished school, etc) and was a bit rough, so I'm hoping this year will be full of good things!

My last few days of 2008 were pretty good though! Sunday night I got to hang out with Abi and Paige. We went to dinner at the Hagy house, and it was good to catch up and hang out since I don't get to see those girls as much. Monday morning Abi and I went to work out. It was good to get moving again, and kind of reminded me that I missed it. (I will be working on this situation.) That afternoon I hung out with Krystal, and she was nice enough to run some errands with me and help with a little craft project. I made Sam a shirt that says "I can grow people! What's your superpower?" with iron-ons. I thought it turned out pretty cute - and I meant to take a picture of it before I gave it to her, but I was running late and this did not happen. So just use your imagination - purple letters with a blue/yellow pacifier translucent behind it. The Alamo bowl was that evening, so I actually got to see her and give it to her. She said she liked it, so I hope she really did! Mark, Sam and I went to meet Taylor for dinner that evening (he was working) and then went back to Mark's to watch the game on his new tv, of which he is quite proud. It's pretty fancy!

Tuesday was pretty uneventful, and that evening I went with Dan, Mark and Mike to Growlers for drinks, etc. We had a blast, and I am reminded how fun it is to see my friends on a regular basis. I really should implement the resolution about spending more time with them individually too. We'll see.

Tomorrow I go back to work - for one day - then its the weekend again. Sat I'm going to look at condos again with Jamie, and maybe grabbing lunch with Emily. Which would be a pretty fun afternoon. Here's how the rest of my week is shaping up: Tue at Kristen's because she's on call, Wed I'm getting my hair cut/colored (yay!) and maybe going to Biggie's, Thur. I have to work late (till like 8 maybe?) and then its Friday again. Work will be busy too as we kick of the event season. Whew, its going to be crazy!
