Paint it up

Oh my, I've been busy. Sunday afternoon was Sam's baby shower, and I think it went pretty well! Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, and I think we had just the right amount of stuff to do to keep things interesting. So I say it was a success! I took pictures and stuff, but they're still on my camera. Maybe I'll add them later...

After the shower I went home and changed clothes then headed out to my townhouse to paint some more. I painted the blue wall in my living room (Mom was kind enough to finish the last of the trim work) and started cleaning the fridge. (shudder) Sam and Cheryl stopped by while I was there to see the place, and I was excited to have my first non-family member house visitors. :) Last night Mom, Kristen, Devin and I went over again. Mom did the trim work then, and I started painting my bedroom. (Sidenote: I'm LOVING the green color I chose from in there.) My sister was nice enough to clean both bathrooms for me and Devin mostly helped by not helping. lol. I am very grateful for their help! I'll eventually take pics of our painting job, but I keep forgetting. Things are falling into place for this weekend too - uhaul is rented, and my WONDERFUL friends and family have agreed to help. Mom and I will pick up the truck on Fri (I took the afternoon off and she's off that day) and Sat is the big moving day. Sunday I have to work for a few hours (Bike Kick-off ride in Chesterfield) and then I took Mon and Tue off to unpack.

I also scheduled to have my ATT Uverse installed on the 9th. Which is actually pretty quick for them. Unfortunately, as you may have figured out, that leaves me without tv or internet for a whole week. I have no idea how THAT will work, but maybe some of you will let me come watch tv with you! lol. I guess I'll be visiting Bread Co. too for internet. Oh my, how dependent I am on my technology! I guess I'll have plenty of time to unpack, right? Hopefully. If nothing else I'll be doing it out of boredom.

No portion of my life seems to be slowing down - work is still busy, and my personal life is still of course in upheaval with the move. But that's ok - it'll slow down eventually. :)

just a little rant

I spent most of the day at my townhouse, and got lots of painting done... unfortunately, there is still quite a bit left to paint! Mom and I discovered that I am not so good at the trim work (not patient enough I think) and she offered to help me more with it on the other rooms since she's way better at it. Thanks Mom! I have to say though, the people who painted before me were NOT very good painters - there is paint everywhere! I don't think they even attempted to tape stuff off. And some of the woodwork and walls are just in such bad shape I have to wonder what on earth they were doing in there to cause that kind of damage. Ugh. Its just frustrating to paint a nice new beautiful color and pull the tape off and see all the old color you just covered up on the woodwork/banister/fireplace/everywhere.

The other part of my rant is not house-related, but manners related. When someone sends you an invitation and requests an RSVP by a certain date, it is just plain rude to not do so. Especially not until the day before the party when you were supposed to let them know 2 weeks earlier due to that person's insanely busy schedule. I mean, a few days I understand - stuff comes up and you forget. But 2 weeks? Really not saying anything until the week of is inconsiderate because shopping is prob. already done. So you may have guessed that this happened today - and she's not the first one to call this week! Seriously people, read your invites! Another manners pet peeve of mine relating to RSVPs is when people do not respond to the person or people indicated. They are the ones throwing the party, so they are the ones who need a head count to buy the necessary party supplies/food - not the guest of honor or some random other person! Again, its just rude. Don't rely on someone else to tell me you're coming, or assume I know you're coming. Things come up - you could be busy! So please note this annoyance for future reference so I don't have to think less of you for having bad manners. :)

I think that's it for the moment.

So much to do, so little time

You know it's a productive day at the office when you're writing a blog at 4:41pm and you get off at 5pm. Yeah, its definately Friday!

Walk MS last weekend went pretty well. Sat in Arnold was great - no rain and a good turn out. Sunday in Clayton was... well, wet. It poured the entire time! We had a good turnout considering the weather, and still managed to have a good time. Sunday night I was glad to get into the hot shower and put on dry clothes though! Last night (Thur) was our Night Walk, and it was of course beautiful. We had a great turn out and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves - which is prob. why I had to go buy more beer. Twice. :)

In between Walks, I closed on my townhouse Monday morning! So I am now a homeowner. Now I just have to paint and move in (shudder). It'll be good once that happens, just the actual moving part is never fun. I'm excited to have my own space again. Painting this weekend, moving next weekend. Fun stuff. I also got to see Sam and Taylor's new house - its pretty awesome. And close to my new place - so they're going to have to hang out with me a lot! (More pics available on facebook or upon request.)

Wednesday night I got to see Becky! She and Scott stopped on their way from Salt Lake to Virginia Beach (Scott works in VB during the summer) and they joined Krystal and I for a baseball game. We had a blast! I was thrilled to see them. We even got to use a family friend of theirs work season tickets, so we were 13 rows behind the Cards dugout - fabulous! I have pics, but since I'm at work, I'll have to upload later. They're driving all day today, so I hope you guys made it safely!

(update - pics as promised)

Remember how I mentioned our Night Walk earlier? It was at Kiener Plaza, and before hand my friend/co-worker Lura and I went down to the Cards game to hand out recruitment cards to people and encourage them to come by after the game. And we got to go to the game! It was definately a hard day at the office as we drank a beer and watched the Cards win! lol. Again, a pic of this to come later.

(update - pic added!)

So that's the cliff notes verson. Sunday is Sam's baby shower, and I'm excited for that. It's going to be a blast! The rest of the weekend will prob. be spent painting and catching up on tv.

Happy Friday!

Walk it up

Walk MS is this weekend! Like tomorrow. I can't believe its finally here - so much preparation, and now we get to put it into action. I'm glad - I feel like I've done what I can and it's time to execute. If you're not busy this weekend, I'll be at Arnold City Park tomorrow - walk starts at noon - and Shaw Park in Clayton on Sunday - noon start as well. Come on by! Needless to say, work has just been nuts this week with preparation. But I think we're as ready as we can be, and it's going to be a fabulous event. In support of my Walk team, H.E.A.T. It Up!, I've been selling candy at work this week and wore my tie-dyed team t-shirt today. You can go to http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/eholtzclaw if you'd like to make a donation to me!

To add a little excitement to my "dull" week, I also had final walk-through yesterday for my townhouse. There are still some things to be done, but the sellers say they're going to do it, so looks like I'll be closing on Monday morning. Hopefully all goes well and I'll be packing up and moving soon. Lots going on in the next few days!

My car is going to have to be fixed because I got hit. By my mom. In our driveway. Yeah. So hopefully they won't need it too long to fix it, and hopefully its not too expensive (for my mom's sake). So that's annoying. Becky is coming in just 4 days though! I'm excited to see her - and we're going to the baseball game on Wed, so that will be fun. Thursday is our Night Walk at Kiener Plaza, and next weekend is Sam's shower and painting. Whew.

Happy Friday!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! I am extremely thankful that the Lord has risen, and that I have a place in Heaven because of it! In addition to being thankful for my salvation, I really have to say how thankful I am for all the blessings in my life. I have a job (which is something in and of itself these days) and one I like at that, and SO many people in my life that I love and that love me. Blessed indeed. Today the whole family went to church (Brian came in from Columbia) and then we had ham and other yummy foods back at Mom's house. Dad joined us too, so it was a nice family event. Later Billy and Danny (Bill's sons) came over, and Danny and Hannah brought Morgan. You know I loved seeing her!

Last weekend, since I was home by myself, I didn't really do much besides enjoy it. I actually spent a large portion of it reading the rest of the Twilight books. :) (I'm such a dork.) I did spend Sat. evening out though, and it was cool because it was just me and Dan B. This was especially nice because not only do I rarely spend time with any of the guys by themselves, but esp. not Dan because he doesn't hang out with us as much anymore. So I was excited. We went out for Chinese and eventually headed down to Union Station. It was lots of fun, and I'm glad I got to have that time with him.

This past week at work was really busy, which was to be expected since Walk is less than a week away now. I'm simultaneously excited and dreading it - on the one hand it'll be good to get an event under my belt and see how we do things and understand it better, but on the other it will be a long weekend and I don't know how we do things yet and have never seen it in action so it will be a little stressful. So hopefully everything will go smoothly.

Speaking of Walk, Friday night team H.E.A.T. It Up! had a team fundraiser and tie-dyed team t-shirts. It was a lot of fun, and the shirts came out pretty good! I enjoyed hanging out with everyone too - it was a nice low-key evening. Holly and I also did some baby shower planning this week, and I'm happy to say that we're well on our way to planning a fabulous shower. I'm getting excited for it - and baby Max will be here before we know it. (Which is still a bit crazy to me, but in a good way.)

As of right now, I'm scheduled to close on my townhouse on April 20, barring no major disasters. Which I am not ruling out at this point due to the nature of the sellers thus far. I'm tentatively planning to move May 2 - so if you're available please feel free to come help :)! I think I'm going to take the Mon and Tue after off to get everything unpacked and settled, so maybe by the end of the month it'll be fit for visitors/a party. We'll see. Final walk-through to see if they've done everything I asked and to see if the house is still in satisfactory condition will probably be this Thur, so I'll know more then. Luckily (or unluckily, however you look at it) my stuff is mostly still packed, so at least I won't have to spend too much time getting ready to move it all. Again. I'll have to start thinking about what my tax credit money is going towards - maybe part of it to a new fridge? A vacation? Hm. Better close first.

a little R&R

I took this afternoon off originally to spend with my mom, because she is off work today and tomorrow is her 50th birthday and we were going to go to lunch and stuff. She ended up leaving town to go to Arkansas to be with Bill, who got stuck there with work. So now I have the afternoon to myself! So far I've been catching up on my DVR'd shows and had lunch. Its nice to be able to relax for awhile at home. Since Mom wasn't going to be here, I almost stayed at work since my supervisor and her supervisor are out most of the day today and I was getting lots of work done. But I was looking forward to my afternoon, so I left. :)

The real estate rollercoaster continues, as since I've last posted they have said they wouldn't and then again would replace the glass in my shower. We're waiting to get that in writing today before I'm even somewhat going to assume that it will happen. (Can you tell I'm done with this?) Jamie did just call and ask if I wanted frosted or clear glass in my shower though, so at least that's a good sign, right?

I also have some new pics of Morgan for your viewing pleasure:

Isn't she a doll?

Let's see, what else... Our Walk MS team, H.E.A.T. It Up!, is having a fundraiser next weekend and tie dying t-shirts for us to wear. I think it'll be a lot of fun! If you'd like to donate to us/me or buy a shirt to support us, go to http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/eholtzclaw. Donations of any size are welcome, and you can click to join the team too if you want to walk with us! I'll also be downtown by the ballpark before the Cardinals game at Busch on Monday with work promoting the Walk, so stop by if you're in the area or are going to the game! We'll be giving away stuff too! We get to go to the game too - which I admit would be more exciting if there wasn't a chance of snow. Seriously, snow? Someone missed the memo that its spring!

I fell down the bottom 4 steps last Sunday, and the bruises I obtained from that are still a bit sore and look HIDEOUS. I hope they go away before Easter - I wanted to wear a dress to church! (And it needs to be warm enough for a dress!)

Happy Friday!

Life besides the rollercoaster

Though today felt like it dragged on for a week (I was busy at work today too with all this real estate nonsense going on), other things have been going on. Last Sat I got together with some friends to watch the Mizzou-UCONN game... and I was so sad when the Tigers couldn't pull it out. They gave it a good effort, but just couldn't get it done. Oh well. Next year.

The game was in the afternoon, so it meant that everyone got together early and we had what Sam refers to as a "marathon" hang out. It was a lot of fun. After the (tear) Tigers lost and we hung out for a bit, the guys decided to go play pool and us girls decided to stay at the house for a little girl time. It was me, Sam, Holly and Courtney (Mark's girlfriend) - and I had a fabulous time with them! We watched 'Twilight' (which I can only kind of believe we did) and gossiped about ourselves and everyone we know. At first Courtney wasn't sure about the gossiping and commented about it, but after a gentle threat to freeze her out if she had a problem with it she was fine. (We don't gossip meanly - its mostly analyzing everyone else's lives, etc. Unless we don't like you. Then watch out. lol.) We drank some and just enjoyed ourselves. The boys eventually made it back with food and we just had a nice relaxing evening.
After I got home, I started thinking about the group of girls I had spent the evening with and how each of them came to be a part of the group and therefore my life. It was funny, because at one point we were talking about how some of the guys had changed over the years and I realized that I was the only one who went to high school with them - a rare feat to be in that group and be the only LHS alum in the room - and I started thinking about how I ended up there, and analyzing my own entrance into the group. It was a learning experience, as I've never really sat and thought about it before, and so I might have to ask the guys about what they thought of me, cause I know they analyze everyone who comes into the group! If you're interested in my findings, ask me and I'll tell you about it - but since I'm guessing most of you aren't concerned I'll just skip it here. :)

Anyway, after our movie watching experience, Holly mentioned that she wanted to read the books. Since I own them, I offered to dig them out and lend them to her. After the digging though, I decided to at least re-read the first one since it had been awhile and I wanted to compare it to the movie. I've now finished it, and can't decide if I'm committing to reading the others or not. While I enjoyed them the first time, its definately different reading when you know how the story ends. So we'll see. :)

In non-12 year old girl news, Becky Nix-Peterson will be coming through town soon! YAY! I'm way excited about this since I haven't seen her since her wedding. She's stopping by on her way to Virginia with her husband, Scott. Abi is also coming into town soon, and I haven't seen her since Christmas so I'm excited about that too. And I might be going to visit some friends and family this summer/fall, so that should be fun too. I'm really blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life!

Walk is also coming up fast, and before you know it it'll be summer already. How did life get so busy?

Rollercoaster

The title says it all. In the last 24 hours, I've been on the Real Estate Rollercoaster.

I've gone from cautiously optomistic to resigned to frustrated/done and back to cautiously optomistic. It's kind of been hell. Things were moving along with my townhouse purchase. We sent a list of things that we wanted fixed, they replied with what they were willing to fix. For the most part, this went fairly well compared to the ridiculousness that these sellers have displayed in the past. Until we got to the mold problem in the bathroom. Yes, there is mold in the shower. And not like a dime-size amount of mold - like several inches of it. Ew. So I told Jamie (my agent) that this had to go. The sellers (who granted have been living with said disgustingness) felt that this was not an issue and refused to replace the glass (the mold is between two pieces of glass in the walk-in shower, and since it wasn't sealed properly and its wet and darker in that corner... you get mold - and cleaning it wasn't going to fix it as it would just come back.) I've made some concessions already on things to be fixed (HIDEOUS basement carpet with more stains than clean spots for example) and felt that this was a sticking point. The sellers apparently felt that this was outrageous and said that they weren't doing it and that they were done. There was lots of drama said during this portion, like that they didn't need to sell (so why would you in this market??), etc and their agent was just rude/bitchy to mine. (Unprofessional!) So I said ok, and Jamie prepared to send over the paperwork that said so. A few hours later, the seller's agent calls Jamie, saying she'll pay to have the shower glass replaced if that's what it will take to get this done.

What? Where did this come from?

So I had to completly re-orient (because I'd already accepted that this wasn't going to happen and that I was going to keep looking) and figure out if this was acceptable. Talk about a rollercoaster! I made it very clear that this kind of sillyness couldn't continue if I was going to accept, and Jamie seemed confident that that was possible since we didn't really have to talk to them anymore. So I think I might be back to closing on April 20, which was not the case at this time yesterday. But I'm not counting on anything until all the paperwork is signed and done. So I might be closer, but who the hell knows at this point. I'm very nervous about this. I had no idea this would be such a pain in the ass.

*sigh*

I'll post about the rest of my life in a min. because this is long enough!
