Furniture

My furniture also came today! All delivered before I had to be at work at 12 - see, it worked out that I had to take a later flight! Otherwise I would have had to take my lunch at 9:30!

Sweet Carolina Vacation

I had an awesome time in Charlotte visiting my cousin Jackie, her husband Patrick and son Alex along with my uncle John, aunt Alene and cousin George (one of Jackie's brothers.)

Fabulous.
It was exactly the kind of vacation I was looking for - I wanted to get away, but didn't really want the craziness that usually occurs when I go on a major vacation. I wanted to relax but not be sitting at home by myself all the time. So a "stay-cation" so to speak with my cousin (who is a stay-at-home mommy to Alex) at her house in North Carolina turned out to be the perfect solution. I always enjoy spending time with Jackie - we're a lot alike and get along really well.

So what did we do? Thursday I arrived around lunch time, and was greeted by my aunt at the airport. We grabbed lunch and hung out at her house with George and Alex until Jackie got back from getting her hair done. We went back to Jackie's and got settled and took a quick nap then headed to Applebees for dinner since Patrick was working and neither of us really cooks. :) We hung out for awhile then played Catan when Patrick got home from work. Good stuff.

Alex and I - Cardinals fans!

Friday we saw the new Harry Potter movie and Jackie and I went to the mall with her friend Jen for awhile then played games when we got back. (We're game people.) Sat. I spent most of the day at John & Alene's house swimming with John and George since Jackie and Patrick had a birthday party for their 2 yr old nephew. My uncle John is a great cook, so he made dinner for us. AMAZING tortellini, chicken and potatoes. Yum. That evening Jackie and I went out to an 80s bar, which was fun despite a little drama with one of Jen's friends.

(though this was actually taken at an earlier date but you get the idea)

Sunday we had a really lazy day - I don't think we even got dressed until like 4pm! Their friends Rachel and Josh came over and we bbqed and played games (do you detect a trend?) I also started reading a new series of books while I was there, so there was quite a bit of that on Sunday, too. :) Monday we went swimming at my aunt and uncle's, and then had Mexican for dinner. It was gooood. After dinner we headed home and played spades with George (yup, another game lol.) I really do love spades though. Tuesday came too soon. Jackie and I took Alex to a play group at the bounce house, picked up lunch and stopped by the bookstore before going to the airport.

Then a funny thing happened - my flight got delayed 2 1/2 hours! So I had to re-book since I would miss my connection to St. Louis in Detroit. When was my new flight? Wed. morning! So George came and rescued me from the airport to stay one more night. Yay! We had a lovely dinner at my aunt and uncle's house, and then Jackie called to see if we wanted to come play games. So you know we did :). It was pouring down rain when we came back, and had a scary little incident with hydroplaning in George's little BMW convertible. We survived only to discover that my camera was still at Jackie's house - I would have left it had my flight been on time! So back we went to rescue it. Good thing we wanted to take this picture!

The next morning my uncle took me to the airport and all went smoothly. I never seem to want to leave Charlotte - I don't know if it's just because I like it there, because I don't work when I'm there or just love visiting the family. Or maybe a little bit of all three.
THANK YOU to my lovely Charlotte family for your awesome hospitality!!

Greatness

I have had a really awesome weekend. Seriously great. Friday night Paige and Bryan came in town to visit her family. They came by and saw my house, then we headed over to her brother's house for BBQ and poker with her family. (The fam plays poker often, and there's like 15 people there at any given time. It's cool.) I was really excited to see her - I haven't seen her since Mardi Gras! Which granted is kind of my fault because I didn't make it down to Springfield, but she was gone most of June when I was available. Oh well.) Anyway, it was lots of fun. I missed you, Paige!

Saturday I got to sleep in, which is always nice. When I finally got my butt out of bed, I did some cleaning, etc before Beth (who I work with) and her girls, Ashley and Emily, came over. They will be feeding my cats while I'm in NC visiting the Thorne/Dashner clan. THANK YOU THANK YOU ladies! I think it will be fun for everyone - the girls will like playing with the cats, and the cats will be happy for the attention. Win-win, right?

Sat evening I had Holly, Kyle, Dan and Anna over for a movie night. We watched "Knowing" - which I stupidly bought on DVD thinking I was going to love it. See, from the previews, it reminded me of the National Treasure movies, which I ADORE. Unfortunately, it was NOT what I expected from the previews... it was, um, weird. Really weird. So that may be going up on ebay soon. If you want it, I'll sell it to you on the cheap! I really enjoyed having them over though, and appreciate them coming out. It was fun!

Last night while I was watching the movie I got a really exciting text from my friend Sara. We were in colorguard together at Mizzou my freshman year and were instant friends. She's a lot of fun, and now lives and teaches in Omaha, NE (where she's originally from). I knew she was in town and had told her if she had free time we should meet up, but I totally didn't expect to hear from her since she was coming to visit family. So imagine my delight when she asked if I wanted to do brunch today. YES, OF COURSE! I was, again, really excited to see a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. In fact, last I saw Sara it was in Omaha when I went to vist Abi in... 07 maybe? Man, it was a long time ago! So yeah, it as awesome. I loved hearing her teacher stories and catching up!

Who knows what other fabulousness today will bring?

This past week was actually pretty cool too - All-Star game in St. Louis (which I didn't go to, but it was still fun to see the city so excited), went to dinner for my dad's birthday (which was Tue, but we went out on Wed), bbq with my department Thur afternoon instead of work at a park... all good. Speaking of the bbq, check out Angie's awesome trick:

Greysen is due to arrive any day now... hopefully it will be a smooth and wonderful delivery for her Momma! Obviously, my boss will be leaving us soon for 8 weeks, so I've been working to get as much done as possible before she leaves. I'm kind of dreading her leaving, but I'm so happy for her to have her little girl!

Upcoming events: I leave for NC on Thursday! I'm SO ready for a little vay-cay and am really excited to spend it with Jackie and her family. Should be an awesome time - I can't wait! My furniture will also (hopefully) be arriving soon for the basement. Then I just have to figure out what I'm doing down there!

Sadly, I'm actually missing quite a few things happening next weekend. Emily & Paul's housewarming party/Em's bday party, Krystal's going away/grad party and Abi's going to be in town so I'll miss seeing her too. Darn. Oh well. I'm still excited for my vacation.

This is a long post - sorry - but I had so many great things happen this week I just had to share. :)

Seven-Eleven-Oh-Nine

Yesterday was a busy but fun day. My friend Aaron got married, and I went out to Kyle's mom's house for a bbq and swimming. It was a pretty fabulous day if I do say so myself.

The Kruse wedding took place at the Hanley Rd Baptist Church, and the reception was at the Anheuser Busch Center in Fenton.

Don't they look happy? It was also fun to see some people from the church I grew up in that I haven't seen in awhile. Another fun thing: since the wedding was on 7-11, they had a slurpee machine at hte reception. How awesome is that? I am actually quite sad that I forgot my favor plastic 7-11 cup at the reception... maybe Aaron can score me another one? I'll have to ask.

After watching friends enter into wedded bliss, I headed out to Kyle's mom's house for bbq, swimming and general fun. Highlights of the day include throwing beers down to the guys in the pool from the deck and laughing hysterically as Kelleigh (Kyle's niece) came in to get beers for her uncle and John.

Good times. I couldn't help but think about how much I'm going to miss Holly and Kyle when they move to Dallas (for a Boeing project for Kyle). I know they'll come back often to visit, and I'm sure I'll go down there, but it won't be the same. And while this is something that's so good for them both professionally (and probably for them as a couple too) the very selfish part of me is screaming NO DON'T GO!!! lol. Ah, I'm going to have to get one of those credit cards with airline miles...

I'm thinking about going down to FanFest today for the All-Star game activities, but if it keeps pouring I might pass. We'll see I guess. Other than that I really don't have much to do today.

Roadtrip

Yesterday I spent the entire work day in the car with 9 of my co-workers. We went to Columbia to see the new site for our bike ride, and drive the proposed 75 mile routes for day 1 and day 2.

(Public service announcement: Bike MS is September 12-13 at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Columbia, MO. Cyclists have the choice of a 40, 75 or 100 mile route each day. Visit www.gatewaymsbikeride.org for details or to register!!)

So we all piled into a 15 passenger van and headed east. Now, luckily I like the group I was with pretty well, but I will say by the time lunch came around I was glad to be getting out of the car for a little bit for a break. :) After lunch things were much more mellow (everyone calmed down a little bit after getting some food), and we headed out to the day 2 route that goes through Amish country. We very much enjoyed seeing the cute Amish people (as Paula says) and their horses and carriages. No one got car sick, and no one tried to kill anyone else. We had plenty of snacks (I always travel with food), which I think contributed to everyone's high spirits. It was nice to see the fairgrounds, and be able to put a visual with the diagrams. It makes things so much easier for planning purposes.

Besides our road trip, work has been pretty busy this week with other Bike related activities. Plus my boss, Angie, is getting ready to go out on maternity leave any time now, so we're trying to get as much done as possible before she leaves.

I'm going to my friend Aaron's wedding tomorrow, then heading out to Kyle's mom's house for swimming, bbq and general running amok since she has tons of land for us to play on. Should be fun!

Happy 4th of July

Last night I went down to the fair to see fireworks and listen to the Counting Crows.
We had a good time hanging out and listening to the music.

Our group listening to the music
We were directly under the Arch

yay fireworks!

I also had carpet installed in the basement this week - it looks great! And I picked up a chair for my living room... sectional for downstairs coming in like 2 weeks.

Besides that, it was a short week at work (3 days!), which was nice. I also went to Biggie's on Wed. night to hang out with Dan, Mike, Emily, Paul, etc. which was a lot of fun. Definate perk to being off on Thursday!

Happy Independence Day!!
