Sock Monkey hat crochet pattern

I want to record the pattern for this cute little sock monkey hat.

 Newborn Sock Monkey Hat

Needed:
crochet hook size G or H
light color yarn (cream)
accent color yarn (pink)
darker color yarn (tan)
yarn needle
2 buttons for eyes (black)

You don't need very much of each color - about 1/4 of a skein of each should be plenty.  You will need the most of the light color for the top and ears.

You can do sc or dc to make the hat slightly larger or smaller.

Hat
with light color ch2
round 1: 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic ring)
round 2: 2 hdc in each st around. (12 sts)
round 3: *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st* 6 times (18 sts)
round 4: *1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in following st* 6 times (24 sts)
round 5: *1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st* 6 times (30 sts)
round 6: *1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in following st* 6 times (36 sts)

change to accent color
round 7: 1 hdc in each st (36 sts)
change to darker color
round 8-11: 1 hdc in each st (36 sts)
change to accent color
round 12: 1 hdc in each st (36 sts), fasten off

Ears (make 2)
with light color, ch 2
round 1: 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic ring)
round 2: 2 hdc in each st around (12 sts), fasten off and leave long tail for sewing

Mouth
with accent color, ch 8
row 1: starting in 2nd ch from hook, 7 hdc
change to light color
row 2-3: ch 2, hdc all the way around (~18 sts)
fasten off leaving long tail for sewing

Attach ears on each side in the dark color section.  Attach mouth in the dark section between the ears.  Sew buttons on each side of the mouth just above the accent color.

Braids
with all 3 colors, pull yarn to desired length for braid.  Cut off 4 times as much as desired length.  After cutting off, fold in half and cut again.  Repeat - cut other folds so you now have 12 pieces of yarn about the same length.  Fold all pieces in half and pull through a stitch under the ear on the bottom row with hook - pull from inside of hat to outside.  You should now have a loop of all the yarn pieces sticking out.  Pull ends through loop from the underside of the hat and pull tight.   Split in 3 sections and braid.  Tie a knot at the end.  Repeat on other side.

For this pattern I added a flower accent on top, or you can add "hair" (which I would do for a "boy" monkey).

Flower
ch 5, sl st to 1st chain to form a ring
ch 3, 9 dc through center of ring (10 sts total) - sl st into top of ch
ch 2, 3 dc in next st, ch 2, sl st into next st; repeat 4 more times (5 petals)
fasten off leaving long tail for sewing

Return to the gym

I actually went to the gym today and ran/walked on a treadmill.  I've been walking outside sometimes, but today I actually did a structured workout.  It went about as expected, which is to say not that awesome, but I got through it.  I need to stretch better before I do it again though or I'll be right back to having shin splints. First time back is the hardest though, right?

Brewfest and Andy's Dirty 30

Last Saturday I attended my favorite St. Louis festival of the summer - the St. Louis Brewers Heritage Festival.  You get to taste a bunch of different locally brewed beers and rate them for your personal future consumption.  It's a great way to try the local stuff without fear of not liking something.  It's awesome and I love it.  My favorite new find was from Square One - single malt scotch ale.  Delicious.

I would like it to go back to Forest Park though.  Parking where there was a game was obnoxious.

It was also Andy's 30th birthday, so he got to celebrate with a full day of drinking and friends.

PS - I could sell those pretzel necklaces and make a fortune.

Drinking buddies

After Brewfest I went home for a nap and to change clothes (it was hot under those tents and we were sweaty messes) and then met up with everyone for dinner at Square One for Andy's birthday and then drinks at McGurks.  I went home kinda early because I was tired but it was a really fun day.

Early Father's Day present

Yesterday I got tickets to the Cardinals game and took my dad for an early Father's Day present.  I was able to get tickets in the WC row which is way more comfortable for my dad and allows him to stretch his legs (way easier on the knees).  He loved his present and it was a lovely evening.

Dad and I at the ballpark in our awesome seats.

I got a really good deal on the tickets so Nellie and her mom decided to come too and were able to get seats right next to us.

We had a nice breeze all evening and the boys won so all in all a good night.  After the game Nellie and I met up to get some ice cream too so it really was a perfect end to a great night.

I'm off work in Monday and looking forward to a long weekend!
