Christopher John Thorne

I also want to mention something very sad that happened in our family this weekend.  You may remember my cousin Jackie and her family who live in NC from my previous visits.  For the past 16 months her youngest, Christopher, has been battling cancer.  Friday night (1/25) he passed away in his sleep at home.  This was unexpected as he had been home playing and being a typical 2 year old for a few weeks and the family was making plans for the next steps in his treatment plan.  Jackie laid him down for bed as usual around 8pm and when Patrick (her husband) went to check on him around 10:30 he was unresponsive.  We are comforted by the knowledge he is in a better place with no more pain but obviously heartbroken that he had to leave us so soon.  We love you sweet boy!  Please keep them in your prayers during this time of unspeakable and unbearable loss.

A photo-less weekend

I had a jam packed weekend in which I didn't manage to take a single photo of what I was doing.  Blog/life documentation fail.

Training is still going fine except that one of my feet starts to gradually go numb about 2-2.5 miles into the workout.  This is alleviated by stopping for a few seconds to stretch/shake out the foot but doesn't last long before I have to do it again.  Super annoying.  Going to have to figure this problem out quickly as I have a 5 mile run to complete on Friday. (Eek.)  I get nervous when I look at the training chart and see the numbers start to increase pretty quickly now but hopefully the training plan will do it's thing and I'll be able to complete the miles.

Friday night I went to happy hour with Nellie and our new friend Julie that started at 6 and lasted until 10.  We had a great time talking and getting to know each other better.  I see lots more of these types of evenings in our future.  :)  Saturday night I went out with Krystal for her birthday a week early since she was in town.  We had dinner then met up with some other friends at Absolutii Goosed martini bar (sp?) and had a great evening.  Today (Sunday) I went to the bike swap in Collinsville for work and to the gym and then spent the rest of the evening at home.  I even got a short nap in which was much needed after the early wake up call on a rainy cold morning.

Nellie's 30th

Friday night we celebrated Nellie's 30th birthday at Jive & Wail.  It was super fun to hang out with everyone and sign to our heart's content.

We got her liquored up, on stage, singing her heart out and then home with water, ibproffen and tacos.  Fun night - happy birthday Nellie!

Miracles

I worked out 5 out of 7 days this week.

For reals.

I even ran (jogged) outside 2 of the days since it was so nice out (upper 50s -low 60s!)  I hope I can continue to keep up with the training schedule.  I really prefer running outside but I also know I won't do it if it's freezing-ass cold so back to the treadmill tomorrow it is.

This morning I had the pleasure of meeting Sam & Taylor's little miracles, Enzo and Nina, who were born on Jan. 17.  They were both almost full term and 7lbs and 7lbs 2oz respectively.  Sam is a superhero for carrying them that long but the payoff was that they came out perfectly healthy with no NICU, oxygen or anything.  Everyday miracles.  :)

Nina Lydia, gorgeous diva in the making

Enzo Ellis, sweet and laid back

Proud parents

I loved snuggling with both babies and getting to catch up with S&T.  They seem to totally have everything under control and are so calm with their babies.  I have total confidence that they will be amazing in this new role and transition to a family of 5 with grace and ease.  Max (their firstborn) might be a different story ;) but I'm sure he'll be an awesome big brother.

Congrats Ericsons!

January fun

So glad we're doing these so I get to see these ladies more often!

Sammy and Sally with their favorite toy.  I threw it down the stairs and within 30 minutes they had carried it back up to drop it by the side of the bed.  $4.99 well spent.

Training

I signed up to do the GO! St. Louis half marathon in April.

I'm not sure what possessed me to decide to do this.

Once I decided to train for it I immediately made Nellie commit to do it too.  In an attempt to not die while traveling 13.1 miles on foot, I started training this week.  It was going fine until I hurt my foot.  I think I came down wrong on some tendon in my foot and it hurts to put weight on it.  I attempted a workout yesterday and only made it half way before I was limping.  So today I rested it and am hoping to be able to get back to training tomorrow.  I also ordered new running shoes with my friend Kristen's help so for sure next week I can get back on track in style.  Since I didn't really make any new year's resolutions this year, this is serving as my new year's goal.

Girl scout cookie sales start tomorrow!  Email me if you want to order some from my super cute Daisy troop girls.

Good thing I'm going to be working out like 5 times a week to burn off the extra calories.

Tortilla Rollups

I used my friend Cat's recipe for tortilla rollups to bring to my New Year's parties and they were a huge hit.  Super easy and delicious.  So I decided to share the recipe with you!

Needed:
2 packages cream cheese
about a cup of shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons of taco seasoning
1/2 cup salsa
10 tortillas

Mix everything together in a medium sized bow and make adjustments as needed to season to taste.  I suggest letting it sit a minute before tasting as the taco seasoning flavor will get stronger as it sits.  Roll them up and put them in the fridge the night before or a few hours before cutting them up to help them stay together.  (You don't have to but it really does make it easier.)  Cut them up and serve.  Also good with just chips if you don't have tortillas or end up with extra.

Thanks Cat for sharing your recipe!

Happy New Year

Hope you had a safe and happy start to 2013!
